FMS visit for practical training in calibration (2016)

From 6 to 15 July 2016, three technical officers from the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) attended practical training on meteorological instrument calibration at WMO/RIC Tsukuba. The course was part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Project for Reinforcing Meteorological Training Function of FMS, and followed the first training event held in June 2015.

The trainees practiced calibration procedures relating to pressure, temperature and humidity in line with FMS guidelines developed as a result of the previous course. Documentation for calibration certificates was also simulated for future use by FMS.

The training was conducted in preparation for the scheduled November 2016 JICA Third Country Training Program at FMS, at which FMS technical officers will calibrate meteorological instruments brought by attendees from neighboring countries. JICA and JMA remain committed to their efforts for improving meteorological observation work in the South Pacific region.
